Out with the old, in with the new!

Using IKEA cabinets in kitchen remodels has become very popular with Canadian homeowners. The brand’s SEKTION line of cabinets topped the J.D. Power 2018 Kitchen Cabinet Satisfaction Study in all five categories: design features, price, warranty, operational performance, and ordering and delivery.

There are many questions we hear all the time when it comes to cabinet refacing. What is the cost of kitchen refacing? What are the differences in between replacement cabinet doors and refinishing/resurfacing? and simply 'What is cabinet refacing?'.

Cabinet Refacing (or Kitchen Refacing) is the process of removing the exterior cabinetry (such as cabinet doors, panels, trim and hardware) replacing it with new doors to give your kitchen a completely new look without the added expenses of replacing the cabinet boxes and all the additional work that can come alongside a typical kitchen remodel (Unfinished flooring, repainting newly exposed walls, rerouting appliance outlets, etc).

In 2015, IKEA replaced their AKURUM system of cabinets with a new system of cabinets called SEKTION. Both systems are very similar in appearance, but there are many differences that are easy to miss. This can be especially frustrating when trying to replace doors for your AKURUM system with new SEKTION doors.

The IKEA AKURUM kitchen was discontinued in early 2015 with door fronts for the cabinet system being phased out of production in October, 2015. After nearly 20 years in the market cabinet doors for this system had vanished to coincide with the release of the new SEKTION system taking its place.
